Introduction

What Peerlock is, how a trade works, and how these docs are organised.

Peerlock is a peer-to-peer marketplace for crypto. People post offers to sell or buy SOL, USDC or USDT, and other people take them, paying each other directly with the payment app they already use: PayPal, Revolut, Wise, a bank transfer and more.

What makes it safe for both sides is the escrow. The crypto being sold is locked in an on-chain program on Solana before anyone pays. It can only leave that program in the ways the program allows: released by the seller to the buyer, returned to the seller when a trade is cancelled, or settled by a moderator in a dispute.

No platform fee

Peerlock doesn't take a cut. Traders set their own prices and keep the full amount; the only costs are Solana network fees, which are fractions of a cent.

A trade in four steps#

  1. 1

    The seller locks crypto

Creating an offer moves the crypto into the escrow program. The offer appears on the board with its price, limits and payment method.
  2. 2

    A buyer opens a trade

The amount is reserved for that buyer for 30 minutes and the seller's payment details are shown to them, and only to them.
  3. 3

    The buyer pays and confirms

The buyer sends the money with the agreed payment method and taps “I've paid”. From that moment the seller can no longer cancel.
  4. 4

    The seller releases

Once the money has arrived, the seller releases and the crypto goes straight from the escrow to the buyer's wallet.
